Since the launch of Crysis in late 2007, EA had released a 2 major patches for Crysis concerning not only bug fixes but performance optimizations as well. It didn't take long before Crysis became a standard in gaming benchmarks along side with 3DMark06. And I bet many are still trying to squeeze out every drop of juice possible with game tweaking & overclocking, as the game is notoriously GPU-intensive.

Enough said. So, in the first part of this article, we are going to find out what kind of performance you can expect from different versions of Crysis, put claims like "Optimizations and Stability - Corrected a number of memory leaks with FSAA modes." to the test. Whereas in the second part of the article, we shall look at how Crysis performs with various drivers from Nvidia.

Graphics: Forceware 171.17 WHQL




Test Methodology

All tests are run using Crysis benchmark tool 1.0.0.5,
Settings: everything HIGH, vsync (off), motion blur (off where possible)
Time Demo: benchmark_gpu x3 runs





Test Result



There is a slight boost in performance of an average of 5% with the 1.1 patch applied. Surprisingly, there is absolutely no difference in framerate between 1.1 & 1.2 in this test.





With 2xAA enabled, the performance boost became more obvious. There is a 7.9% increase from 1.0 to 1.1. EA is true to their word on "Corrected a number of memory leaks with FSAA modes". Although not significant, but there is an average of 2.3% increase in performance moving from v1.1 to v1.2 across all resolutions.
